I’m honored and excited to be awarded a grant from New York Council on the Arts to collaborate with Hussein Smko and Marion Schoevaert to create a dance theater work. I can’t wait to join the amazingly talented creative team! We had a workshop earlier this year and it was a really memorable moment.
Collection in Focus - Guggenheim New York
This just in! It was a really fun project to work on. It’s quite fascinating to peek inside artists’ brain and hear about their creative practices. I hope you enjoy this mini-series!
In the first season of the Guggenheim New York’s Collection in Focus video series, curators sit down with artists to discuss an artwork that has recently entered the museum’s collection.

Nice Review on Kammerraku Promise
“Kammerraku Promise“ by Kyo-Shin-An Arts was a fun afternoon concert with James Nyoraku Schlefer, Cassatt String Quartet, and Yoko Reikano Kimura performing the works of Minoru Miki, Yoko Sato, and myself. I found this review by blogcritics.org musically astute and beautifully written. Please check it out!
"Masatora Goya Follows the Elusive Pathways of Human Emotion"
The interview by Amanda Cook from I CARE IF YOU LISTEN is now available. She uncovered what I had been unaware and beautifully put my artistic trajectory together. Please check it out!
”Masatora Goya Follows the Elusive Pathways of Human Emotion”
Masatora wins the American Prize!
I’m delighted to share the news that MANAS for shakuhachi, cello, and piano has been selected as a winner of the American Prize, 2022, in the professional instrumental chamber music division! Tremendous thanks to the Kyo-Shin-An Arts for the commission and the music marvels James Nyoraku Schlefer, Hikaru Tamaki, and Kathleen Supové. Without your passion and dedication, this would never have happened. I’ve got even a press on the Broadway World!
This award means a lot to me that my decade-long struggle now feels worthwhile after all. MANAS was the first piece that I felt I was able to fully integrate my influences and present them as an organic expression. At the same time, it gave me many insights how I can keep composing for the next decade. I will keep exploring new possibilities and my own way to synthesize different aesthetics.
Last but not least, since I came to the US as a complete novice I had warm and kind supports from many people and mentors at NJCU, BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop, and Five Towns College. Especially late Dr. Annette LeSiege was one of the strongest motivators to push me for the compositional career. Her untimely death before seeing any of my achievements still saddens me to this day. She told me that not the school I attend, but the music I write alone can show me the way. Thanks for your wisdom, Dr. LeSiege. I will keep paddling in the creative ocean.
