ABOUT Sarah
Inspired by the stories of Hussein’s sister in the Kurdish region of Iraq, Sarah celebrates women’s resilience, shared humanity, and the Kurdish experience amidst wartime and Saddam Hussein’s 2005 trial. Set in a courthouse under the Ishtar Gates of Babylon, Sarah tells the story of the pregnant, unwed Sarah under trial during a time of war. Sarah endures judgment from her patriarchal society and abandonment from her lover. However, like Ishtar, the Mesopotamian goddess of love, war, and fertility, Sarah remains proud and resilient, never abandoning her pursuit of freedom.
